After Ajoy Mehta was appointed as the new Maharashtra chief secretary, Praveen Pardeshi on Monday took charge as the new Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner. Earlier, Pardeshi served as the additional chief secretary to the Chief Minister office (CMO).
In a major reshuffle of the bureaucrats, an IAS officer of 1985 batch, Pardeshi replaced Ajoy Mehta as the new BMC chief after Mehta was appointed as the state chief secretary. Mehta is an IAS officer of 1984 batch.
Praveen Pardeshi is considered as an important member of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ core team and is said to be close-aid to Fadnavis. Pardeshi was the key official in coordinating Maharashtra’s effort during Kerala floods in the year 2018.

However, the ongoing reclamation work for coastal road and the bad condition of city roads, Pardeshi faces new challenges ahead of the monsoon season. Every year, BMC aims to finish the pre-monsoon preparation for the smooth running of the city during the rainy season.
Pardeshi has worked under several departments with the Maharashtra government including revenue, urban development and forest department.
