In a surprising turn of events, Melt, a high-end gym located in South Bombay (SoBo), has announced its closure, marking the end of its 21-year run.

The gym was located at a prominent fixture in the Cambata Building near Churchgate Station. It had accumulated an affluent clientele. However, due to significant losses, the gym's management has made the decision to shut its doors.

As a part of the closure process, Melt's management has taken steps to integrate its housekeeping employees into its sister company, QI Spine Clinic. Nitij Arenja, the director of Melt, has also gotten franchise-related offers as the gym's closure looms.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances leading to the closure, Arenja has caught the attention of potential franchisors who recognise the gym's brand and its appeal to a high-profile clientele.

Melt operated in collaboration with the Cambata Trust, serving as a tenant in their property. However, with the closure of the gym, the property is now being peacefully returned to the landlord. The gym was originally established as Qi in June 2002. The gym underwent a rebranding and was renamed Melt in May 2019. Over the years, Melt became a favoured fitness destination for senior IPS and IAS officers, Mantralaya bureaucrats, legal experts, business tycoons, and even personalities from the film industry.

Melt's closure comes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown measures. Prior to the lockdown, the gym underwent an extensive makeover and imported expensive equipment from Italy, aiming to create an Olympic-grade facility. However, the lockdown negatively impacted the gym's operations.
