Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has successfully launched the mobile application 'STP Tanker,' bringing about a revolutionary approach to water recycling in construction. Since its introduction, the app has garnered an overwhelming response, transforming the way treated sewage water is utilized for construction purposes.

Unprecedented Participation

The 'STP Tanker' app has witnessed remarkable uptake, with 8 sewage treatment plants (STPs), 147 tanker owners, and 765 builders registering to participate in this eco-friendly initiative. A report published in the Free Press Journal mentioned that this significant level of engagement highlights the industry's growing recognition of the importance of sustainable water management in construction projects.

Efficient Order Facilitation

Since its launch, the app has facilitated a total of 1,672 orders, showcasing its effectiveness in connecting builders with registered tanker owners and enabling the seamless supply of treated sewage water. With an average daily supply of 4 lakh 9-thousand litres of treated sewage water, the 'STP Tanker' app is making a substantial impact on reducing reliance on potable water sources for construction activities.

User-Friendly Interface and Database Access

The user-friendly interface of the 'STP Tanker' app offers builders convenient access to a comprehensive database of registered tanker owners. This database includes information about tanker owners operating in conjunction with PMC's eight sewage treatment plants. The collaboration between these owners and the treatment plants ensures that the treated sewage water meets the necessary quality standards for safe usage in construction activities.

Mandatory Use of Treated Sewage Water

PMC has made it mandatory for developers to use treated sewage water from plants for construction activities. This decision reflects the commitment to sustainable practices and the conservation of potable water resources. Developers can now place their water demand with the civic body through the 'STP Tanker' app, which is easily accessible on Android phones.

Streamlined Process for Developers

To request treated water through tankers, developers need to register on the mobile app and provide construction site details. The app allows them to identify the tanker owner and make the necessary payment to facilitate tanker refilling. This streamlined process ensures a smooth and efficient supply of treated sewage water to construction sites.

Strict Compliance and Consequences

PMC has taken a strong stance on water conservation by banning the use of drinking water, borewell water, or well water for construction activities. The decision applies to both private and government construction projects in the city. PMC is determined to take action against developers who fail to comply with this regulation, emphasizing the importance of using treated sewage water for construction work.

Addressing Water Scarcity Challenges

The decision to ban potable water for construction activities stems from the depletion of water in the city's supplying dams during the summer heat. PMC's proactive approach in adopting sustainable alternatives, such as the 'STP Tanker' app, contributes significantly to addressing water scarcity challenges and preserving precious water resources.
