According to a report by Times of India, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Beed, Nanded and Yavatmal districts, which have over 500 cases of the coronavirus are growing at 5 per cent daily, which is nearly double the state average. Rajesh Tope, meanwhile, has asserted that Pune, along with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), which is currently adding the most number of cases should report a decline in the next 8-10 days.

Tope has further opined that the state of Maharashtra will see a rise in the cases of coronavirus till the end of August, after which, a downward slope can be expected.

Earlier, Tope had mentioned that the government of Maharashtra was working to ensure that the fatality rate does not go up. Adding that the number of medical practitioners and ICU beds were being increased to meet this demand, Tope had stated that the state cabinet had passed a resolution on availing the services of final year postgraduate medical students in the ICU wards. He also added that important anti-viral drugs were being curated so that their stock in each district can be increased.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, July 28, Maharashtra recorded 7,717 fresh cases of the coronavirus, propelling the state's COVID-19 tally to 3,91,440. At present, there are 1,44,694 active cases in the state. With 10,333 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 2,32,277.
