NCP member and opposition leader, Dhananjay Munde demanded immediate payment of salaries to the ration shopkeepers in the state.

The ration shopkeepers are protesting since Monday at Azad Maidan and Munde raised their concerns by raising the proposal in the Assembly and drawing the government’s attention to the issue. Munde pointed out that the concerns of the shopkeepers have not been properly addressed by the government which led to their protest. The major problem is that the shopkeepers have not linked their Aadhaar Card and Mobile Number to their Ration Card due to which the APL and BPL card-holders have not been registered on the server.

The ration shopkeepers are ready to implement the government machinery, but the government need to give them some time. Their main demand is to give them some time to submit their biometrics and show some leniency. The shopkeepers’ problem is a sensitive one and so it is necessary to empathise to it," Munde.

However, Speaker Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar rejected the postponement proposal. He said that as the subject was serious, the discussion should be a priority and be addressed some other time. The Food and Civil Supplies Minister Girish Bapat also agreed to this.
