The Western Railway has opened recruitment for Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) Facilitators to the general public, ending the earlier practice of restricting the positions to retired railway employees and their family members.
Applications have been invited for the appointment of 175 facilitators across 36 stations on the Churchgate–Dahanu suburban corridor. The recruitment will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.
The selected candidates will assist commuters in purchasing unreserved suburban tickets through ATVMs and encourage greater use of the self-ticketing system.
According to Western Railway officials, any local resident who has passed Class 10 and is 18 years of age or above is eligible to apply.
"Until now, only retired railway employees and their family members were eligible for these positions. This time, members of the general public can also apply by submitting the prescribed application form," a Western Railway official said.
The facilitators will be engaged on a commission-based payment system and appointed on a two-year contractual basis.
Applicants must be residents of the local district and will be required to undergo mandatory police verification before their appointment.
Candidates selected for Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus, Surat and Vapi stations will have to deposit a refundable security amount of INR 50,000, while those appointed at all other stations will be required to pay INR 25,000. Retired railway employees, however, are exempt from furnishing the security deposit.
According to railway sources, Western Railway has already filled five facilitator posts with retired railway employees under the ongoing recruitment process.
The highest number of vacancies has been announced at Bandra and Andheri, with 14 posts each, followed by Santacruz (12), Prabhadevi (9), Jogeshwari (9), Mumbai Central (8), Goregaon (8), Malad (8), and Borivali (8).
No vacancies have been notified at Dahisar, Mira Road, Vasai Road, and Boisar stations.
Railway officials said the initiative is expected to improve passenger assistance at stations while promoting faster and wider adoption of the ATVM-based ticketing system across the suburban railway network.
