The residents of Malad and Kandivali areas in Mumbai have demanded a metro station at Charkop car shed.

Dr. Pranav Kabra, head of the Malvani-Charkop Residents' Forum, on behalf of the residents wrote a letter to the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL).

He stated that the area around the Hindustan Naka metro station and Mith Chowki is one of the most congested and polluted areas of the city.

A boarding point or a mini station in the car shed would help hundreds of people living in Malvani, Kharodi, Jankalyan Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, Bhoomi Park, Marve, without entering the actual premises, he added.

In order to further press their demand, the residents, under the guidance Dr Kabra, will also meet metro officials in the coming days regarding this matter.

Commuters can just walk to the boarding point without having to take a bus or an auto rickshaw as traffic congestion is primarily due to the hundreds of autos.

A group will also give a formal representation to MMMOCL soon, explaining about how beneficial it would be as the population of the Malvani-Charkop area is growing at a rapid pace.

Over 5,000 people from Malvani and Charkop localities commute to Andheri, Oshiwara as well as Borivali and Dahisar down lines each day.
