In a dramatic morning rescue operation, around 33 residents, including two newborns, were saved from a five-story building in Andheri East's Saki Naka neighborhood after a fire broke out on Saturday morning. The incident, which occurred at 8:50 AM, sent shockwaves through the community, as thick smoke quickly filled the building, obscuring the escape routes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

The fire is believed to have originated in the electric meter box on the ground floor, rapidly engulfing the electrical wiring, installations, and panel boards. Responding swiftly to the emergency, Mumbai fire brigade officials arrived at the scene with a water tanker and an ambulance to tackle the escalating situation.

Rescue Operation and Efforts

As the fire raged on, residents found themselves trapped due to the dense smoke that had filled the staircase. With no access to the locked terrace, firefighters had to employ innovative methods to save those in peril. They had to cut through the window grill of a first-floor flat and deploy a ladder to reach the stranded residents. Ultimately, the fire was brought under control by disconnecting the building's power supply, averting a potential catastrophe.

The fire, classified as a level 1 (minor fire) incident, was successfully contained within two hours, thanks to the quick response of the fire brigade. Remarkably, all 11 women, 16 men, and six children trapped inside the building were safely rescued. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
