Residents of Mira Road in Thane, Maharashtra, have taken legal action against three MLAs, including BJP's Nitesh Rane, independent MLA Geeta Jain, and Telangana BJP's T Raja Singh. Allegations of hate speeches made during and after communal clashes earlier this year in the Naya Nagar area have prompted the residents to approach the Bombay High Court seeking justice.

A report in the Indian Express highlighted that on Thursday, residents, along with others, submitted a petition to the Bombay High Court, urging the registration of FIRs against the three MLAs. The petitioners, including two victims of the violence, expressed frustration over the police's failure to initiate case registrations independently, despite directives from the Supreme Court.

Judicial Review Scheduled

A division bench, led by Justice Revati Mohite-Dere, is set to review the plea on March 27. This move highlights the residents' determination to seek justice through the judicial system due to perceived inaction by law enforcement authorities. According to the petitioners, Nitesh Rane and Geeta Jain visited various areas of Mira Road during the communal clashes, delivering speeches perceived as threats to the minority community. The alleged campaign of hate speeches extended beyond Mira Road to suburbs such as Govandi and Malwani.

Accusations Against T Raja Singh

Additionally, the petition accuses T Raja Singh of making communal remarks during a rally held on February 25 in the Mira Road area. These allegations further underscore the residents' concerns regarding the proliferation of hate speech and its potential to incite further violence. In their petition, the residents have requested the court to direct the police to initiate suo motu FIRs against the three MLAs. The offenses alleged include provocation to cause riots, promoting enmity between groups, defiling places of worship, and breaching public peace, as outlined in the Indian Penal Code.
