Forest officials believe that both the animals were killed for trafficking purpose

A Leopard and Sambar deer’s carcass was found at Dadasaheb Phalke filmcity in Goregaon. Forest officials believe that it was a poaching case as 11 nails of leopard and head of Sambar deer were found to be missing.

The carcass was found in the distance of 100 metres of the set of Hindi TV serial Karna Sangini, on Monday. Leopard was reportedly 4-years-old.

Female leopard’s stomach bore some injuries, hence it was believed that she was trapped and died. Likewise, Sambar deer’s carcass was found 50 metres away from the leopard’s carcass. Officials informed that deer’s left leg was trapped and died.

Few metres away from the carcasses, forest officials also found an empty cage tied to a tree. Officials ruled out a clear case of poaching and trafficking.

Both the animals might have died 15-20 days ago as their bodies were found in a decomposed state. Forest officials are investigating for more details,” Dr Shailesh Pethe, Veterinary officer, Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
