Mumbai - BMC administration is being accused of favoring blacklisted contractors. However, BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta has dismissed this accusation in standing committee meet on Wednesday. He explained that no blacklisted contractors will be entertained by BMC henceforth.
Six contractors were found guilty in the road scam and their registration is been cancelled. The other 10 contractors from this scam are working on old projects and they are still under scanner. Their deposits worth Rs 908 crores is with BMC, Mehta made it clear.
BMC has decided to give a makeover to 1004 roads. Necessary permissions from the traffic Police also have been obtained. But this work will be executed in phases to avoid traffic woes. Currently 305 roads are under repairing. 17 new contractors are being considered for new projects. Healthy competition among contractors will improve the quality, said Mehta.
