From Thursday midnight, the transport operators began their indefinite strike where school, contract carriage buses for companies and private inter-state buses will remain off the roads on Friday. School Bus Owners Association has also backed the strike. This one day strike is affecting parents who are now looking for other alternatives to send their children to schools.

On the condition of anonymity, a parent shared her ordeal owing to the transport strike.

My daughter studies at an International school and we go to know about the bus strike today morning. My daughter’s school starts in noon and now we are looking out for other alternatives to take our daughter to school,” a parent.

Meanwhile, School Bus Owners Association's president Anil Garg said that they are backing the strike because they are facing losses over high petrol and diesel prices.

We have demanded to abolish toll for school buses and there are other various demands, the state should adhere to,” Anil Garg, President, School Bus Owners Association.

The nationwide one-day strike has been observed by the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), one of the apex bodies of transporters. They want the government to reduce the diesel prices and take action against third-party insurance premium hike, existing toll collection policy, alleged corruption and harassment on roads, besides national permits for passenger vehicles.
