As second fire incident takes place at Notan Villa in Khar on Saturday, April 23, the Mumbai fire brigade (MFB) commenced a probe to check the factors that led to the blaze.

This time, the fire occurred between the third and fourth floor of the building and the fire brigade rescued four people using turntable ladders. After this, the electricity supply to the building was shut down.

With this, the residential building reports its second fire incident within a week, and the third one in six to eight months. Therefore, the fire brigade officials have decided to conduct a thorough investigation in the matter.

For those unversed, a level 2 fire broke out on the 4th floor of residential building in Mumbai’s Khar area on April 21. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

According to reports, there is no one occupying the property at present, apart from some security guards privately hired by the family. Moreover, investigation to check for the cause of fire will be done following which a notice will be issued to the building after the investigation is complete.

The notice will be for violating fire-safety measures, and a non-operational firefighting system.

Meanwhile, earlier in September 2021, a major fire broke out in the sixth floor of the building which killed one person. Following this, the Mumbai fire brigade had issued a notice to the owners of the building for non-compliance with fire safety measures.

Lately, there has been a considerable rise in the number of fire mishaps reported across the city. It has been observed that these accidents are majorly identified in the residential buildings. This continues to occur despite Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporations (BMC)'s various notices to buildings to take preventive measure for fire safety. They have also directed officials to conduct audits to identify violations of fire safety measures in the buildings and fix lapses.
