Mumbai receives its water supply from seven dams, one of which is the Tansa Dam. Although entry into the dam area is strictly prohibited, the municipal administration has now decided to install fencing around the dam area to prevent illegal access. For this project, the civic body will spend INR 26,50,253.
Mumbai gets its water from seven dams namely Modak Sagar Dam, Middle Vaitarna Dam, Upper Vaitarna Dam, Bhatsa Dam, Tansa Dam, Tulsi Lake and Vihar Lake. Supplying clean and safe drinking water to residents is the responsibility of the municipal administration. Since dam areas are highly sensitive and crucial sources of water supply, strict security measures are implemented to prevent unauthorised entry.
As part of these measures, strong fencing is being installed at sensitive locations around the dam premises. The fencing consists of iron mesh coated with anti-corrosion material and is mounted on cement concrete poles. This is expected to help prevent the movement of wild animals as well as unauthorised persons.
According to officials from the civic water department, security rules in the dam area have been further tightened, and once the fencing work is completed, regular maintenance and inspections will be carried out.
