Selfies on Mumbai–Pune Missing Link to Attract Fines; Police Begin Action

Authorities have cracked down on motorists stopping for selfies and photographs on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway Missing Link, citing serious safety concerns. Terming it dangerous from a safety perspective and a violation of traffic rules, the highway police have now begun penal action against motorists stopping on the Missing Link stretch. A fine of INR 500 is being imposed on violators.

Accordingly, on Saturday, the police took action against 15 motorists.

The Maharashtra Highway Police have banned halting on the high-speed stretch for taking selfies, photos, or shooting reels. Violators will face fines and possible legal action, officials said. 

The move comes after several motorists were seen stopping their vehicles on the newly opened route, especially near the scenic cable-stayed bridge and tunnels, turning the stretch into an impromptu photo spot.

Officials warned that sudden halts on the expressway pose a major risk to other commuters, as the route is designed for high-speed travel. Authorities have also stepped up surveillance and monitoring to identify violators.

Despite repeated advisories, some commuters continue to flout rules, prompting stricter enforcement to ensure safety on the corridor.
