Amid the rise in COVID-19 cases in Mumbai, chemists have reportedly been selling a considerable number of self-help kits. In the midst of this, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has found that chemists have not been providing details of the buyers to the civic body. The BMC has now asked pharmacies to share details of the daily sale, reports stated.

Additional municipal commissioner, BMC, Dr Sanjeev Kumar, was quoted in an account by Hindustan Times elaborating on how in the midst of the surge in coronavirus, the civic authority has asked chemists, manufacturers providing and selling at-home antigen testing kits to furnish information to them.

Kumar reportedly added that there have been several cases that were reported on the home test kits but have not been reported on the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) portal. Owing to this, they cannot track the patient thus it becomes arduous to limit the spread of the virus. Further, he voiced that the epidemiology cell and ward team will then share the information with the ward's medical officers.

On the other hand, chemists have been told to educate buyers of self-testing kits about the app they need to download. By means of the app, the data is connected with the ICMR coronavirus testing portal. Moreover, they have also been told to counsel consumers to consult a doctor if they have any symptoms, accounts stated.

In accordance with the ICMR advisory on May 19, symptomatic patients who have tested negative on the Rapid Antigen Test should verify the same with an RT-PCR test. Norms suggest that those under home isolation are considered discharged after at least seven days are passed from them testing positive, with fever for three days straight.
