Shivaji Park Gymkhana Elections to be held on November 13-14

The election will be conducted amongst two panels - Amre-Joshi and Khanolkar-Murkar. Meanwhile, the former Test cricketer Praveen Amre has been elected unopposed as the President of the gymkhana.

Shivaji Park Gymkhana in Mumbai's Dadar has completed more than 110 years. The Gymkhana, due to the selfless efforts of its members, has always enjoyed the limelight.

Shivaji Park Gymkhana was born as the “New Maharashtra Cricket Club” – established in 1909 by P. G. Marathe and his two brothers along with S. P. Athalye, L. M. Vaishampayan, N. T. Kane and others.

The renowned Shivaji Park Gymkhana, which has provided many Test players for the Indian Cricket Team, will hold its elections for 2021 on November 13 and 14.

Former Test cricketer Pravin Amre has been elected unopposed as the President of the gymkhana. He has served as the President of Gymkhana for the last nine years.

However, the Pravin Amre-Aniruddha Joshi panel has announced its candidates for the posts of trustee and executive. Under Amre's leadership, Shivaji Park Gymkhana is being lauded for its effective implementation of the Coronavirus Prevention Scheme amid the ongoing pandemic.

For the Shivaji Park Gymkhana Elections 2021, Aniruddha Joshi will be contesting for the post of General Secretary from Amre-Joshi panel. 

The Amre-Joshi panel manifesto proposes amendments to the Shivaji Park Gymkhana constitution to promote inclusivity, democracy, and productivity.

It also promises to facilitate clean and transparent governance along with promotion of activities, games, and sports for children along with International Women’s Tennis Tournament are all part of the panel’s manifesto. The panel also ensures seeking affiliations with partner clubs across India. Organize health check-ups for their members by partnering with renowned hospitals and medical institutions and conduct blood donation drives. Introduce and install modern automated access systems at the gymkhana entry point, renovate/refurbish and modernise the look. 

Besides, Khanolkar-Murkar is the other panel in opposition for this year’s election. Sanjeev Khanolkar will be contesting for the post of General Secretary from Khanolkar-Murkar panel, whereas Deepak Murkar is in the fray for the post of Chairman.

The proposed agenda of Khanolkar-Murkar panel for the coming term includes -- to have more affiliation in Mumbai and Maharashtra, to make lobby more presentable and soothing entry, provide entirely free training to girls under 12, 14 and 16. The manifesto also ensures starting a new academy for indoor sports and expand club activities along with adding new members from all fields to have new ideas in the Gymkhana.
