A fire broke out today at a chawl in Sai Nagar, Ghatkopar (E), leaving six people injured. The incident was reported at 12:49 PM by the BMC’s Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) and was brought under control within an hour.
The fire occurred on the first floor of a ground-plus-one-floor chawl located at Chawl No.10, 90 Feet Road, Pant Nagar. According to BMC reports, the fire was confined to a 10 x 10 feet area and involved electric wiring, electrical installations, a leaked LPG cylinder (HPCL), utensils, household articles, clothes, gas stove, regulator, and rubber pipes.
The fire was extinguished at 1:28 PM, with prompt response from BMC’s MFB, local police, BMC ward staff, and 108 Ambulance services.

Gouri Mukhiya (F, 10 yrs): 10–12% burns, condition stable
Prashant Vishwakarma (M, 9 yrs): 2–3% burns, condition stable
Pooja Mukhiya (F, 6 yrs): 10–12% burns, condition stable
Dalat Devi Mukhiya (F, 40 yrs): 15% burns, condition critical
Nageshwar Mukhiya (M, 45 yrs): 55% burns, condition critical
All six victims remain admitted at Rajawadi Hospital.
Authorities confirmed that the fire did not spread beyond the confined area. Early firefighting efforts prevented major damage to the structure. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire, with a preliminary report pointing to a combination of electrical short-circuit and a leaked LPG cylinder.
The BMC and local authorities have urged residents to ensure proper maintenance of electrical wiring and safe handling of LPG cylinders to prevent such incidents in densely populated areas.
