According to officials, the incident occurred around 1:47 pm on the Nashik–Mumbai carriageway when vehicles heading towards Mumbai suddenly collided with each other on the flyover. The crash involved four cars and two tempos.
The injured has been identified as 22-year-old tempo driver Sheikh Shabir Mahmood, who sustained serious injuries to his left arm and leg. He was rescued from the damaged vehicle and rushed to a government hospital in Thane for treatment.
Emergency response teams, including traffic police, personnel from the Naupada police station, and the Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management unit, reached the spot and carried out rescue operations.
Preliminary reports suggest that a rear-end collision may have triggered a chain reaction, leading to multiple vehicles crashing into one another. The accident caused temporary traffic congestion on the busy highway stretch before the damaged vehicles were cleared.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident, including possible driver error and road conditions.
