A 26km-long sewage line across all the 21 slums of Digha will be laid by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). It will resolve the issue of stinky nullahs in the slum.

NMMC has already completed the tendering work of the project, and the work of the sewage line on the site will commence next week. The administration will be spending around ₹24 crores on the same.

Digha is one of the oldest areas in Mumbai, but they do not have any sewage system. It is a major challenge for them to keep the slums clean, said NMMC's senior officer from the engineering department.

He further added that the plot to develop the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) would be provided by Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and the project will be completed within two years.

At present, NMMC has six STPs which are in CBD Belapur, Nerul, Sanpada, Vashi, Koparkhairane and Airoli.  Their sewage lines length is around 361.20km. In their area,  over 197.00 million litres ((MLD) of sewage is generated per day.

City engineer of NMMC, Sanjay Desai, said that they have laid sewage lines in all nodal areas of the city. Apart from Digha, there are a few small pockets that are still in need of sewage lines. They will be covering the remaining areas soon.
