Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani on Wednesday inaugurated a 'One Stop Centre' at KEM hospital. This centre will ensure assistance to rape survivors, victims of child abuse and acid attack in medical treatment and counselling. On this occasion, Maharashtra Youth Welfare Minister Ashish Shelar was also present.

The 'One Stop Centre', which has been jointly set up by the central government, district collectorate of Mumbai city and KEM hospital aim to provide efficient medical treatment and counselling to the victims. The centre will have gynecologists, physiatrists and forensics specialists.

Moreover, this move will help speed up the process of preparing medical reports which will be handed over to the police and courts. KEM is the first BMC hospital to have such a centre.

While speaking at the civic-run hospital, Smriti Irani said that it is the responsibility of men and the society to see no woman faces injustice. The Union Minister further informed that such centres are coming up in various parts of the country and it was necessary to have on such unit in Mumbai.
