The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is determined to go forward with its plans to build underground parking lots in two locations, Worli and Flora Fountain, despite facing legal challenges for a similar project near the Raosaheb Patwardhan Garden plot in Bandra.

Civic officials reported that there has been no significant progress in resolving the issues surrounding the Bandra project. But the tendering process for the Worli and Flora Fountain locations is nearing completion.

Four bids were received for the Worli underground parking project following the issuance of tenders almost four months ago.

Three bids were submitted for the proposed Hutatma Chowk underground parking lot. Hutatma Chowk lot is situated next to the Bombay High Court (HC) on the southern side of Flora Fountain. The tendering process for these projects is in its final stages. The construction is expected to start within a few months.

The Bandra project has faced opposition from local residents. They fear that the proposed underground parking lot might result in the loss of green spaces in the area. Activist Zoru Bhathena has been vocal in opposing both the Bandra and Flora Fountain parking projects. Bathena highlighted that integrating Flora Fountain into the ongoing Metro project could undermine the city's efforts to encourage the use of public transportation.

The selected bidder for these projects will have the responsibility of planning, designing, and constructing the underground parking lots. Flora Fountain's parking facility will boast an advanced underground multilevel electromechanical auto parking system. The successful bidder will provide annual maintenance and servicing for the structure for 20 years after its completion.

The cost of the Hutatma Chowk parking lot is estimated to be approximately INR 61 crores. It will be capable of accommodating 176 vehicles. On the other hand, the Worli parking lot will have a more substantial budget of INR 165 crores and will be able to cater to 640 automobiles.
