Start-ups in the city have been called by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) through its Business Incubation Centre that it set with the assistance of IIT-Bombay’s Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE) to present ideas for the solution of civic problems through the means of ingenious ideas and technology, reported the Indian Express.

Areas, where suggestions are sought, include cleanliness in slums, education, public health, stormwater drain management, and waste management for now. Indian start-ups and innovators can submit their entries till September 5 to chief.bdd@mcgm.gov.in.

BMC, Business Development, chief, Shashi Bala, according to the report, elaborated on the fact that the civic authority since the past few years has been offering infrastructure facilities. To further ameliorate the facilities, new ideas are being sought from the city’s start-ups, he said.

The governing board members of the Society for Mumbai Incubation Lab to Entrepreneurship (SMILE) will be examining the applications. This instrument was set up by the BMC to foster an avenue for promising entrepreneurs to transform their ideas into business proposals. This is expected to enhance societal welfare, whilst also establishing the city’s mark as a global business hub.

This social entrepreneurship program of the BMC advocates social and economical enhancement, while also giving a chance to develop, assist, and advance ideas that can become trailblazing businesses. It is hoped that it would then enhance revenue and employment avenues in Mumbai.

According to the report, the committee will comprise, corporators, entrepreneurs, IIT experts, municipal officials, professionals and practitioners in related fields.
