Christmas is right around the corner followed by New Year’s Eve and bar/club owners will have a super busy year-end period as The state home department, in consultation with the excise department, on Thursday issued a notification allowing permit rooms to host Christmas and New Year's Eve parties till 5:00 AM, instead of the usual 1:30 AM deadline.
The notification also allows liquor shops to stay open till 1:00 AM on December 24, 25 and 31. They usually shut shop at 10:30 PM.
Every year, we have to pester the excise department and the state home department to get permission during the festive period. This year, luckily, we received permission three days before Christmas and we're happy as we can plan things accordingly," Dilip Giyanani, President, Maharashtra Wine Merchant Association told Mumbai Live.
Hotel and bar owners are yet to receive permission from the police even though the state department has permitted them to extend their deadline during the festive period.
