Coronavirus cases in Mumbai and nearby areas are increasing with every passing day, and keeping the same in mind, the local municipal corporations are taking strict action by marking the areas to ensure safety. Keeping the same in mind, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), on October 2, 2020, imposed strict lockdown across these 11 areas in the locality. These have been marked as Containment Zones till October 31, where only essential services will be operational.

Officials have been asked to ensure safety and restricted movement. The decision was taken as several cases were reported from these localities, and the move will contain the spread of the virus.

Data released by the state health department, as of October 2, 2020, showed that Navi Mumbai had more than 40,000 cases and 900 deaths. COVID19 cases in Maharashtra have also increased, and the tally has crossed the 14-lakh mark. Observing the same, the state government has extended the lockdown until October 31, 2020, however, some restrictions have been offered under the unlock 5.0 guidelines. 

Bars, eateries and restaurants across Maharashtra can reopen with 50 per cent seating capacity, and SOPs have been issued for the same. Dabbawallas will also be able to travel in the Mumbai local trains, and observing the increasing number of passengers, officials have asked the railway department to increase the number of journeys in the MMR region. However, the general public will not be allowed to travel in the trains until further notice, and as followed, only workers from the essential services will be able to travel with permissions.
