The state government has taken steps to reduce accidents on the Samruddhi Highway. There was a rumour that accidents were taking place on Samruddhi Highway due to lack of space where drivers can rest and dine. Now the government has floated a tender to set up a roadside food mall on the Samruddhi Highway.

After the inauguration of the highway on Samruddhi by Prime Minister Modi, this road was also opened for traffic. However, this highway has come into the limelight due to a series of accidents. The investigation of the transport department has revealed that the accident occurred because the vehicles were parked on the road after running out of fuel or when the vehicle was stopped after running out of fuel.

Many people alleged that accidents were taking place due to the lack of roadside facilities while travelling such a long distance on the Samruddhi Highway. A tender was floated earlier in this regard, after which the tender was extended three times. However, the MSRDC official informed that the tender was rejected as only one company participated in this extension. Once again a tender has been floated by the state government.

There will be 16 roadside food malls (way-side facilities) on the entire Samruddhi Highway. There will be a total of 16 such food malls at eight places going towards Nagpur and eight places coming towards Mumbai. The tender in this regard has been taken out by the government.

The estimated cost of each food mall has been fixed at INR 50 crore. So it will be important to see how many companies will participate after the tender is drawn again. However, the question has been raised as to why the facilities are not being made available at the same speed as the government completed the Samruddhi Highway.
