The Navi Mumbai Traffic police has announced a complete traffic shutdown on a section of the highway for a week.
It comes in view of the upcoming road concreting work on Thane-Belapur Road near IKEA.
The work, to be carried out by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), will take place from 9 pm on Wednesday, May 7, till midnight on May 14.
As per the order, the section of Thane-Belapur Highway from Savita Chemical to Turbhe Railway Station will remain completely closed for all vehicular traffic during the specified period.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Tirupati Kakade has issued an official notification imposing traffic restrictions under the authority granted by the Maharashtra Government's Home Department Notification dated September 27, 1996, and in accordance with Sections 115, 116(1)(a)(b), and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
According to a report submitted by the Senior Police Inspector of Turbhe Traffic Division, measures are being taken to avoid traffic congestion and minimize inconvenience to the public.
To manage the flow of vehicles, the traffic department has suggested alternate routes.
