Ongoing metro construction at Manpada Chowk on the Kalyan-Shilphata Road has led to severe traffic congestion, prompting the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) to warn of protests if the pace of work is not accelerated within the next eight days.
According to MNS Dombivli district organiser Harshad Patil, the slow progress of metro pillar construction has caused daily traffic snarls from morning until late at night. Commuters, school buses, office-goers and local residents are facing long delays, with journeys that normally take five minutes stretching to nearly an hour.
Manpada Chowk is one of the busiest junctions on the Kalyan-Shilphata Road, connecting traffic from Dombivli, Manpada, Umbharli village and surrounding areas. Traffic police have been working continuously to manage congestion, but the bottlenecks persist due to the restricted road space around the metro construction site.
Patil demanded that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) expedite the construction work and ease traffic at the junction. He warned that the MNS would launch an agitation if no visible improvement is seen within eight days. Similar congestion has also been reported near Patripul, where metro work is underway.
