As part of the "My Home, My Ganpati" initiative, the Thane Municipal Corporation is organising idol-making workshops across the city, where participants can create eco-friendly Ganesh idols using Shadu clay. These workshops are being conducted with support from the Environmental Vigilance Board and various social organizations.

The workshops are free of charge and open to all citizens, but prior registration is required. Since June 14, more than 100 citizens have already created Shadu clay idols at the Green Shoppe office of the Environmental Vigilance Board, located at  Dadoji Konddev Stadium. According to Chief Environmental Officer Manisha Pradhan, the number of workshops and locations is being increased to enable greater public participation.


Workshops will now also be held at the following locations:

  1. Dadoji Konddev Stadium, Shop No. 15: Daily workshops until August 17

  2. Amphitheatre near Upvan Lake: Workshops every Saturday and Sunday until August 17

  3. Mahatma Phule Ambedkar Memorial Hall, near Bethany Hospital, Pokhran Road No. 2: Workshops on August 2 and 3

For registration, citizens can contact representatives of the Environmental Vigilance Board at 9920772869. Participation is completely free.


Workshops for Students
Under the "Environmental School" initiative, the Thane Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with the Environmental Vigilance Board, has already conducted live demonstrations for over 3,000 school students in the TMC area, showing them how to make eco-friendly Ganesh idols. The campaign also aims to raise awareness about celebrating festivals in an environmentally conscious way. Schools from Thane city, Daighar, Khardi, Diva, Mumbra, Balkum, Manpada, and Owla have enthusiastically participated in this initiative.

Support for Shadu Clay Idol Makers
To promote eco-friendly Ganesh celebrations, the Thane Municipal Corporation has provided free workspace to 4 idol makers this year. Additionally, as per the applications received, 17 idol makers have been supplied with 25 tons of Shadu clay free of cost, according to Manisha Pradhan.
