Even when there is a one-way lane, motorists continue to drive in the opposite direction in violation of traffic rules. In order to deter such vehicle drivers, 'Tire Killer' will be experimented at important places in Gaondevi area of Thane railway station area. Through the Thane Municipal Corporation, this tire killer will be installed in the next fortnight and if anyone drives in the opposite direction, the wheel of the vehicle will be damaged. The police said that the driver will not drive in the opposite direction by himself to avoid damage to the wheel. If this experiment is successful, tire killers will be installed in other parts of Thane city as well.
Thousands of vehicles are plying in the Thane railway station area. There are more rickshaws and two-wheelers. In some areas, the traffic police have made one-way detours to ensure smooth traffic in the station area. However, if there is no traffic police on these routes, some motorists, especially rickshaw drivers, enter these routes by driving in the opposite direction. Due to this, traffic is obstructed and traffic jams occur. Driving in the opposite direction can lead to serious accidents.
Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao held a meeting in September about the transport system in the city. In this meeting, he decided to install a 'tire killer' on an experimental basis in Thane to prevent accidents and traffic jams caused by driving vehicles in the opposite direction at the station. Accordingly, TMC and Traffic Police had started to determine some areas. Accordingly, one-way lanes have been fixed on the traffic route from Shivaji Maharaj Path in Thane Station area towards Gaondevi Temple and near Gaondevi Maidan.
After the trial in the Thane railway station area, this tire killer will also be installed on other one-way routes in the city. 100 to 200 meters before the information board is being put up about a tire killer. Adequate night time lighting shall be ensured in this area. Also, this tire killer was installed only after confirming that the part was coming in the CCTV camera area. These forks go down if the vehicle comes in the right direction. But if a vehicle comes from the opposite direction, the wheel may be damaged by the iron spikes.
Accordingly, Subhash Path area, Gadevi Mandir area and B-Cabin area of Thane station area have been identified to place tire killers.
