At least four incidents of blaze have been witnessed in less than a week across Thane city, as per reports. While no injuries have been reported, the rise in such instances have raised safety concerns for the residents.
Case 1:
In the most recent case, a fire broke out at a closed pizza shop in Mumbra area in Thane district of Maharashtra on Monday morning, March 23, officials said, adding that no injuries were reported in the incident.
The incident took place around 7.13 am near a company premises opposite the local fire station.
The civic officials said that no one was injured in the incident.
According to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) the shop was shut at the time, which helped prevent any casualties.
Following the information regarding the blaze, the firefighters from the Mumbra fire station rushed to the spot with one rescue vehicle and one fire engine.
They managed to bring the blaze under control and fully extinguish it.
Officials said the fire caused damage to equipment inside the shop, including a fryer machine and electrical wiring.
The extent of the financial loss is yet to be assessed.
The fire has been completely put out and the situation is now under control, authorities said.
Case 2:
A day prior, fire broke out on Sunday evening, March 22, in a residential building in Naupada, Thane (West), causing damage to household appliances but no injuries.
According to the Disaster Management Cell of Thane Municipal Corporation, the incident occurred around 5:09 pm at Shree Siddhivinayak Residency, a ground-plus-seven-storey building located near the railway quarters at B Cabin. The fire erupted in Room No. 201 on the second floor, owned by Prafulchandra Ramakant Dandekar, and involved an air conditioner outdoor unit and a washing machine.
Upon receiving the alert from the Chief Fire Control Room, fire brigade teams rushed to the spot with one fire engine and a rescue vehicle. Personnel from the Disaster Management Cell, along with teams from Mahanagar Gas and Mahavitaran, also reached the location to assist in the operation.
Officials confirmed that no one was injured in the incident. However, the fire caused damage to the washing machine, AC outdoor unit, and electrical wiring in the flat.

Case 3:
Nine furniture godowns were completely gutted in a fire at Bhiwandi in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Thursday, March 19, officials said.
Nobody was injured in the blaze that erupted around 11.30 am at the Chamunda Complex in the Kasheli area, which houses many more such furniture godowns-cum-shops, said fire officer Nitin Chavan from the Bhiwandi-Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC).
The fire was brought under control over six hours later at around 6 pm, he said.
“Firefighters faced difficulty in containing the flames due to the highly combustible furniture material stored on the premises,” Chavan said.
Fireman Bapu Sonawane, who supervised the firefighting operation, said that nine godowns were totally destroyed in the blaze.
This cluster of godowns had started its operation just one month back and lacked firefighting systems and equipment, he said.
Due to unavailability of water there, the firefighters had to face difficulties in dousing the flames.
