A special drive is being carried out by the Thane Municipal Corporation against illegally parked and abandoned vehicles within the Lokmanya Savarkar Ward Committee area. During the operation, a total of 19 abandoned vehicles were seized, and encroachments on footpaths were cleared to make them accessible for pedestrians.
Recently, Mayor Sharmila Pimpalolkar held a meeting to address traffic congestion in the Lokmanya Nagar–Savarkar Nagar ward. During the meeting, she instructed officials to take strict action against abandoned vehicles parked along roadsides.
The operation was conducted under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, guided by Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Umesh Birari, and carried out by Assistant Commissioner Somnath Bansode along with officials from the police, traffic department, and the encroachment department of the Thane Municipal Corporation.
The drive covered areas including Mahatma Phule Nagar, Kores Road, the road in front of Vedant Complex, Yashodhan Nagar, and the Lokmanya Bus Depot area. In this action, 4 four-wheelers, 3 three-wheelers, and 12 two-wheelers were seized and taken to the Bata compound. Additionally, encroachments on footpaths were removed to ensure safe passage for citizens.
Earlier, on April 3 and 4, 2026, action had already been taken against 16 abandoned vehicles. In total, 32 abandoned vehicles were acted upon during March within the ward committee limits, according to the administration.
Citizens have expressed that such drives are helping ease traffic congestion and maintain discipline in public spaces.
