Bandra Talao (lake), locally known as Swami Vivekanand Talao is set to be transformed by December as per the officials. The construction will enable strolling, jogging and sight-seeing around the lake which is a grade-II heritage structure.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has begun the construction of a walking track around the lake which is proposed to happen under the phase two of the project.

During the first phase which was concluded in April 2016, the civic body conducted desiltation of the lake and restored the railings, flooring and the lane around the lake.

The entire transformation project, which consists of a walking track around the talao and a cantilever bridge across the lake, will be constructed at a cost of ₹6 crores.

Presently, the lake can be accessed only from one side without any connectivity between both the sides. A bridge with glass railings is also being planned. The garden department of BMC has proposed plans to install LED lightings and aerators around the lake.

In addition to all the measures taken by the BMC to convert the talao into a tourist spot in Bandra, a wall painting of Swami Vivekanand will also be created at the lake.

The plan by the BMC seems to be transforming the spot into a potential tourist spot but the maintenance of the lake must be a matter of priority for the civic body. Without effective measures to conserve the talao, the transformation would rather become yet another useless expenditure.
