On Wednesday, Nitin Raut the Energy Minister instructed Adani Electricity to ensure that those living in the forest zones in Malad East’s Appa Pada, be provided with a power connection at residential rates. 5,500 families, according to reports, reside in the said area. Thus, with this new development, 25,000 citizens in the area will benefit.

People in Ambedkar and Jamrishi Nagar having been voicing their discontent against the high bills they were receiving. Raut based on accounts stated that he has taken into consideration the complaints made by the residents and thus told the officials from Adani to change the common meter to individual residential meters. If not, they will receive slab advantages.

Those from the energy department have elucidated that in order to do this, they need to attain forest clearance. Based on narratives, without environmental clearances, meter connection cannot be offered in forest zones. In addition to this, no low-tension distribution network can happen in forest areas, said officials in reports.

Apart from getting the requisite permissions, the utility co has been asked to indulge in the area survey, highlighted Raut. Adani made a statement saying that they want to supply electricity to consumers in their license area. According to the law, setting network and furnishing services to consumers in the forest area requires a NOC from the forest department. Once permissions are granted, supply will be released, highlighted the statement, stated reports.
