On Monday, September 14, a portion of a roof collapsed in Sanjeevani building in Dahisar.

Part of the roof of a flat located on the third floor collapsed as a result of which the civic body has now issued a notice for the residents of the building to vacate the premises immediately. At the same time, the BMC has also given the notice to vacate some houses in the vicinity.

According to sources, two residents have sustained serious injuries on their legs in this accident. As per the residents, the accident occurred as a result of the negligence of the building owner. As soon as the information of the incident was received, the employees of BMC and fire department rushed to the spot and initiated the rescue operations.

The residents had earlier complained to the building owner several times about the dilapidated condition of the building. However, every complaint was allegedly ignored. Even though the BMC has now issued a notice to vacate the building, the question that remains is where are the residents to stay until the renovation or redevelopment work is completed.

In a similar incident, earlier, a five-storey building by the name Bhanushali collapsed amidst heavy downpour near the Lucky House in south Mumbai’s Fort area which took the lives of several people living in the building.
