Central Railway on Wednesday provided body cameras to ticket checkers to maintain transparency on a regular basis.
"We have decided to equip 50 ticket checkers of Mumbai division with cameras as part of this initiative and two of them have been given the devices so far, the rest will be given cameras soon," said a senior Central Railway official.
Railway officials say that this monitoring will help in preventing misbehavior and violent acts. Along with this it will help in detecting any discrepancy especially in case of complaints. It will also help to increase accountability and inspire professionalism and protect employees from reputational damage.
Meanwhile, Konkan Railway has started collecting fines online via the ticket examiner. Hence, 'Cash' along with 'Cashless' fines are levied. On the same lines, the ticket examiners of the Central Railway will also start online fine collection. Ticket inspection teams are stationed in stations to stop the passengers who travel free by railways. Ticket checkers also levy fines in long distance trains and local trains.
Many times, people who are caught travelling ticketless often have no money, for such the Central Railway has started working on a mobile application which will enable ticket checkers to levy fines online. Soon this app will appear at every ticket checker, a senior railway ticket checker has informed.
