Mumbai: Iconic Van Rani Toy Train to Return to Sanjay Gandhi National Park After Cyclone Damage

Toy Train in Mumbai’s SGNP Set for Comeback by June

Article:

The Van Rani toy train will soon make its comeback to Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Mumbai by June. Union Minister Piyush Goyal made this announcement on Saturday, April 19. He said the toy train would soon be available to the public.

In 2021, a cyclone damaged the tracks. After that, park officials began efforts to rebuild the route. Rail India Technical and Economic Service, or RITES, was given the task of restoring the train. As per sources, the agency has promised to finish the work by May 31. The service is expected to begin by June.

As per reports, the prime minister had stepped in after the service stopped. A plan to restore the train was then started. The project is now in its final stages. The total cost of the project is about INR 45 crore. Out of this, INR 43 crore was given by SGNP officials.

The toy train started in 1970. It ran on a small-gauge line and was powered by a diesel engine. The train covered a distance of 2.7 km. At least 20 passengers were required for a trip. The train ran every 30 minutes.

The new train will have two types of coaches. One set will have four vista-dome coaches. The other set will have four open-seating coaches. Each set will have four bogeys.

The toy train track passes through a 5.5 square km area called Krishnagiri Upvan. Visitors can see animals and enjoy the local plants and trees. The area has a small zoo and rich biodiversity.
