On Tuesday, December 14, the Ministry of Civil Aviation in its office memorandum stated that from December 20, all international travellers from 'at-risk' countries, arriving at airports in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad will have to mandatorily prebook an RT-PCR test, reported news agency ANI.

In light of this, the Air Suvidha portal will enable passengers from “at-risk” countries or who have visited “at-risk” countries in the past 14 days to compulsorily pre-book the RT-PCR test. In the first phase, it may be implemented in six metro cities in India.

Additionally, in the Air Suvidha platform, a link to the respective airport website will also be provided. This will be accessible to those travellers while filing the self-declaration form.

By first implementing it in the six metro cities, the authorities not only look to stabilize the system but see to it that passengers don’t face issues in pre-booking and payment, amongst others.

In order to ensure that travellers aren’t inconvenienced, time of one week has been provided for the new system to come into force. This will be in action from December 20 (December 19, 11.59 pm onwards).

Airlines have been asked to check this mandatory pre-booking prior to the travellers boarding their flights. If the passengers face issues in pre-booking, they may not be denied booking. Instead, airlines will have to take the passengers to the registration counter for testing at the airport.
