Usually, monsoon helps trees to grow healthy, however, the picture is different at Marine Drive, where waves coming from the sea are destroying trees. Many trees are getting affected due to the salt water. In order to keep the trees healthy, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has covered these trees with a green cloth.

In order to beautify the city and conserve the environment, the civic body plants trees at various places and dividers as well. However, trees which are planted near sea/salt spray area needs more attention. The Police Gymkhana situated at South Mumbai’s Netaji Subhash Road (Marne Drive) is a part of the salt spray area.

We have covered 120 trees with green cloth on a temporary basis near Marine Drive. We observed that this trick is working on the trees and helping them to survive in salt spray area,” Jitendra Pardeshi, Superintendent, Garden Department.
