Beach outings proved to be fatal for an 11-year old schoolboy and 40-year old auto-rickshaw driver at Girgaum and Juhu beach respectively.

On Sunday, June 9, 11-year old Bhavish Baria was accompanied by his mother at Girgaum Chowpatty while he drowned when he was playing in the sea. He was rushed to Gokuldas Tejpal (GT) Hospital in Fort where he was declared dead. Marine Lines Police station have registered a case of accidental death.

In the second incident on the same day, Mahesh Shinde, a resident of Seepz in Andheri East drowned at Juhu Beach where he had come with his family. Shinde, a rickshaw driver, was standing near the shore at 2:30 pm when the currents pulled him in. After an intense 3-hour search by the lifeguards and fire brigade, his body was seen floating on the beach at 5:30 pm. He was rushed to Cooper Hospital where he was pronounced dead and the body has been sent for autopsy.
