A 51-year-old JJ Hospital sweeper had tested positive for COVID-19 and now two of his family members too have contracted the virus. The brother-in-law and the mother-in-law of the sweeper have tested positive. Her brother-in-law is a ward boy in the hospital's cardiac unit whereas the 78-year-old mother-in-law is a housewife. As per Mirror Online, the sweeper's husband has been stuck in Gujarat since the lockdown was announced. Her son was also tested and his reports are awaited.

The nephrology department at JJ Hospital had shut down on April 21 after a patient tested positive. Soon after, the hospital had released a statement saying that the department would restart as soon as the reports of the technicians arrived. As per Mirror Online, a couple of patients were immediately discharged whereas close to 30 patients undergoing dialysis at the hospital were left stranded.

The reports of JJ's nephrology unit being shut down comes just after Dr Sanjay Oak, the head of the city's COVID-19 task force on April 27, had directed that no dialysis centre in the city should remain shut for more than 24 hours.

In its statement, JJ Hospital said that the 56-year-old had been admitted last month and had undergone 14 dialysis sessions. Throughout his treatment, he had come in contact with several people till his discharge on April 17. After his discharge, he tested positive for coronavirus.

Following which, as per COVID-19 guidelines, all 22 doctors, technicians, ward boys, and sweepers, who came in contact with the patient were tested.
