The Regional Transport Office (RTO), Mumbai (West), has announced changes in the registration process for two-wheelers. The current MH02-GQ registration series is coming to an end, and the new MH02-GR series will be launched shortly. The RTO has also issued guidelines for applying for fancy and preferred registration numbers.

As per Rule 54-A of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, and the notification dated August 30, 2024, certain attractive numbers have been reserved. A fixed fee will be charged for these premium numbers. Applications for fancy numbers will be accepted after the MH02-GQ series ends on December 1, 2025.

Applicants must submit the prescribed application form to the Inward–Outward Department, RTO Mumbai (West) (Ground Floor, Window No. 12) between 10:00 am and 2:30 pm.

The application must include a self-attested copy of address proof (Aadhaar card, voter ID, passport, etc.). The fee for the preferred number must be paid via a demand draft issued by a nationalised bank, in favor of RTO Mumbai West. A copy of the applicant’s PAN card must also be attached.

If more than one application is received for the same number, a list of applicants will be displayed on the RTO notice board, and an auction process will be conducted for those numbers. The RTO has stated that the fee structure for fancy numbers, as determined by the government, is available on the notice board of the RTO Mumbai (West) office.
