A gas cylinder explosion early Wednesday morning triggered a fire and partial collapse of a residential structure in Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar-2, Rajaram Chawl, Goregaon (West). The incident was first reported to the fire control room at 7:42 am, with an official update issued at 9:45 am.
According to information received from C.P. Control, the explosion occurred in Room No. 180 and 181 of a ground-plus-one structure after LPG leaked from a cylinder. The resulting fire engulfed plastic materials and other household articles on the ground floor.
Before fire brigade units reached the spot, local residents acted swiftly, using buckets of water to control the flames. Fire personnel later completed the extinguishing process and cut off the electric supply to prevent further hazards. The blaze was fully extinguished by 8:25 am.
The force of the blast caused portions of the walls in both rooms to collapse. Initially, it was believed that three individuals had been injured; however, according to updated information from Dr. Pravin Bangar of HBT Trauma Care Hospital, only one injury has been confirmed.
The injured woman, Maltidevi, 28, sustained approximately 30–35% burns. Her condition is reported to be stable. She was transferred from HBT Trauma Care Hospital to LTMG Sion Hospital for further treatment. She was taken to the hospital by local residents in a private vehicle before emergency services arrived.
Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations into the cause of the gas leak and structural collapse.
