With Ganeshotsav 2026 approaching, civic authorities in Vasai-Virar and Mira-Bhayandar have intensified preparations to ensure safe, smooth and hassle-free celebrations, particularly during the idol immersion process.
From dedicated assistance for Ganesh mandals to artificial immersion ponds, trained personnel and traffic-management measures, several arrangements have been put in place across the two civic regions.
In Vasai-Virar, the efforts of Palghar Lok Sabha MP Dr. Hemant Vishnu Savara have led to the introduction of several measures aimed at addressing the administrative and logistical challenges faced by Ganesh mandals during the festival.
Dr. Savara had written to the Commissioner of the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVCMC) on September 5, 2026, requesting special facilities and administrative support for Ganesh mandals during Ganeshotsav.
Acting on the demands, the VVCMC has issued an official circular outlining various arrangements for the festival. One of the key measures is the establishment of a Disaster Management Office, which will help Ganesh mandals obtain assistance related to permissions, traffic management and other administrative issues.
The civic body has also introduced two toll-free helpline numbers — 18002673898 and 18002334353 — for citizens and Ganesh mandals to register complaints and seek assistance during the festival.

To ensure that grievances are addressed quickly on the ground, nodal officers and municipal staff have been deployed at different locations. Officials have been instructed to monitor the situation and ensure prompt action on complaints and suggestions received during Ganeshotsav.
One of the major concerns raised by MP Dr. Savara was the difficulty faced by Ganesh mandals while immersing large idols.
Responding to the demand, the civic administration has approved arrangements for a Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) jetty, which will facilitate the immersion of larger Ganesh idols.
The facility is being arranged in coordination with the Maharashtra Maritime Board and police authorities. The objective is to make the immersion process safer and more organised while reducing congestion and difficulties at conventional immersion points.
The additional arrangements are expected to benefit large Ganesh mandals and help authorities manage crowds and traffic more efficiently during visarjan.
Meanwhile, the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has also undertaken extensive preparations for Ganesh idol immersion.
The civic body has identified and prepared 24 immersion locations across the city, comprising five natural water bodies and 19 artificial immersion ponds.
The arrangements are aimed at accommodating both household Ganesh idols and larger public Ganesh mandals while ensuring that the immersion process is conducted safely and in an environmentally responsible manner.
As part of the safety measures, devotees will not be permitted to enter the water at immersion locations.
Instead, trained personnel will carry out the immersion of idols, helping reduce the risk of drowning and other accidents. Police personnel, medical teams and ambulances will also be deployed at immersion sites to respond quickly to emergencies.
The MBMC is simultaneously promoting environmentally responsible immersion practices and has issued guidelines encouraging citizens and Ganesh mandals to use artificial ponds and follow prescribed procedures.
The combined preparations by civic authorities in Vasai-Virar and Mira-Bhayandar highlight a broader focus on public safety, traffic management, emergency response and eco-friendly Ganesh idol immersion.
