Mumbai experienced unseasonal rainfall on Tuesday night, January 9, and Wednesday morning, January 10. Owing  to this, Mumbaikars woke to cloudy skies.

Several suburban pockets - Goregaon, Malad, Borivali, Andheri, Jogeshwari, Bandra, Mira Road, Vashi -- witnessed light showers or drizzle. Additionally, some parts of neighbouring Raigad, Thane and Palghar districts also recorded light rains late in the evening.

Anticipating an unusual cycle of climate, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) also warned for light to moderate rains in Marathwada and western Maharashtra. In its five day forecast, it has stated that the light showers are very likely across the state, including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Pune etc., today, January 10.

The weather department has attributed this to a low-pressure system that had developed in the Arabian Sea. Unexpected weather changes are happening in Maharashtra due to regular seasonal cycle bringing in very cold and unusual conditions.

The skies were overcast since the afternoon, leading to a rise in humidity in the middle of winter.

Besides, in a sigh of relief, light showers in the city also improved the air quality, making it easier for people to breathe.

From today, January 10, Mumbai and other cities in Maharashtra might witness a dip in the temperature, said IMD officials.
