Railway authorities are making big improvements to the UTS app to meet the growing demand for digital tickets among local commuters. The latest enhancements are focused on the user interface, payment processes, and ticket purchasing.

One significant change includes expanding the ticket purchasing limit from 2 to 5 km from the station. Enhancements extend beyond the user interface and also address payment processes. The introduction of UPI mode allows users to pay directly within the UTS app. This means that users will not have to switch between applications.

In response to user feedback, the railways have made it easier for commuters to request a new handset without compromising their valid travel tickets and passes. The syncing process with the new phone will take approximately an hour.

Moreover, language preferences have been considered too. Marathi has been introduced as a language too. Additionally, booking four passengers on a single First Class and AC local ticket has already been authorised.

The surge in digital ticket usage and season passes prompted railway authorities to adapt the UTS app for "ease of use." The railways reported a remarkable 70% increase in UTS usage on Central Railway (CR) and 67% on Western Railway (WR) between October 2022 and October 2023.

In October 2022, over 2 crore commuters utilised the UTS app for local train travel. The statistics reveal a significant jump in daily UTS app users, reaching 11.67 lakh in October 2022, compared to 6.91 lakh in the same month the previous year.
