According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, in the past 11 months, 6 per cent of the 4,575 which is 255 COVID-19 deaths in Mumbai were amongst those that had attained at least one dose of the vaccine against coronavirus, reports stated.

It was on January 16 2021, that the vaccination campaign commenced. In Mumbai 4,575 Covid-19 deaths coronavirus deaths were recorded between February 1, 2021, and January 4, 2022. From these, 4,320 of the deceased were unvaccinated which is 94 per cent of the total COVID-19 deaths in Mumbai since the past 11 months.

On the other hand, the remaining 255 patients or 6 per cent who succumbed to COVID-19 were vaccinated and were categorised as breakthrough infections. Taking into account that the fatality rate is under 10 per cent amongst those vaccinated, doctors have emphasised the need for inoculation.

According to reports, the K-East ward that covers Andheri East recorded more than 400 deaths amongst those unvaccinated in the same period. This was the highest in Mumbai and was trailed by R-South and P-North that comprises Dahisar and Malad West, respectively.

The civic body data further elucidated that breakthrough infection were high amongst those who had comorbidities. Based on accounts, in Mumbai, almost five lakh beneficiaries have delayed or missed their schedule for the second jab.

As of January 11, 1.01 crore people have taken their first jab in Mumbai, 83 lakh are fully inoculated, while 25,242 have taken their precautionary doses.
