Virar-Dahanu Road Rail Quadrupling Project Achieves 23% Completion

The Western Railway's (WR) Virar-Dahanu Road Quadrupling Project is making significant strides, with a quarter of the project already completed.

The existing two-track system is set to undergo a transformation. The project will make separate ways for the long-distance trains and the suburban trains. Currently, both share the two tracks in the Virar-Dahanu segment.

The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) is leading the project, aiming for completion by December 2026. The project has reportedly acquired all necessary land, including private, public, and forest lands. Forest land clearances have been secured, ensuring smooth progress.

The project's current estimate has been accepted, laying the groundwork for future stages. Currently, the project is undergoing an environmental impact assessment. The project has also received a working licence on their land from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited.

As far as progress is concerned, significant earthwork and bridge contracts have been awarded. Construction is underway at several stations, including Virar, Saphale, Vaitarna, Dahanu Road, Umroli, and Kelve Road. The project has successfully eliminated infringement at several locations.

The project is expected to meet the increasing demands of travellers and contribute to the economy of the region. The project had an authorised amount of INR 3578.00 crore. So far, with 23% progress, it has spent INR 825.27 crore as of December 2023.
