Mumbai: Western Railway collects INR 170 crore from ticketless passengers

Ticket checking campaign is being effectively implemented in local, mail-express and special trains on Western Railway and a fine of INR 170.35 crore has been collected from 25.63 lakh passengers who travelled without tickets during the year 2022-23. Out of this, INR 43.07 crore fine has been recovered from passengers in Mumbai section. 


A Ticket Scrutiny Team is working under the guidance of senior officers of Western Railway to provide better service to the passengers travelling with official tickets and to avoid the hassles of ticketless passengers. A INR 113.57 crore fine was collected from ticketless passengers in 2021-22 by this team. In 2022-23, as much as INR 170.35 crore fine has been collected from 25.63 lakh ticketless passengers.


In March 2023, action was taken against a total of 1.94 lakh passengers who were carrying luggage without reservation and travelling without ticket in local and express trains. A fine of INR 12.07 crore has been recovered from them. Also, a special team of ticket inspectors recovered a fine of INR 3.08 crore from the Mumbai division in March 2023. Since April 2022 till now, fines have been collected from more than 48, 691 passengers who travelled without tickets in air-conditioned local trains, officials of Western Railway informed.
