Lower Parel railway station entertains a huge amount of crowd on a daily basis which makes it difficult for people to move out of the station swiftly.

To avoid stampede, chaos, and to ease the pain for commuters, Western Railways (WR) plans to construct another foot over bridge (FOB) at the north side of Lower Parel station.

WR chief public relations officer Ravinder Bhakar informed that construction of the bridge is already initiated on the west side of Lower Parel. However, on the east side near Eastern Bakery, a few structures are being brought down.

According to media reports, with 10 meters in width and about 70 meters long, the bridge will be constructed in six months. After Andheri Bridge Collapse, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that a safety audit of all the bridges will be carried out to deter any further incidents.

Regarding this, on July 24, the Lower Parel road bridge was closed for vehicles and pedestrians as it could have tumbled down.  As this happened, a huge amount of crowd piled up on the existing bridge at the railway station.

Thus, the idea to construct a new FOB was carried out. The authorities have said that the new bridge will prove to be beneficial and will be wide enough.
